OMAHA, Neb. — For the first time in the franchise history, the Wichita Wild are playing for a league playoff championship.

Wichita edged the Omaha Beef 31-25 in the semifinals of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League playoffs at the Ralston Arena in Omaha.

Wichita takes on the first-year Salina Bombers at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Hartman Arena in the first Champions Bowl.

SALINA — The Newton Junior Knights split a doubleheader against the Salina Hawks Friday in Class A American Legion baseball play at Dean Evans Stadium.

Newton won the first game 20-4 in four innings on the 10-run rule, but lost the second game 18-13. The second game clocked in at just over three hours.

In the first game, Newton scored five runs in the second, six runs in the third and nine runs in the fourth.

WICHITA — Just nine strokes separate the second-day leader of the Air Capital Classic and those who just made the cut.

Nathan Tyler of Tucson, Ariz., shot a 65 Friday for a 10-under par 132 after two days of play. Tyler leads Thursday's first-round leader Alex Prugh and Jace Long of Dixon, Mo., by two strokes.

Six players are tied for fourth at 135. The cut (top 60 and ties) for the tournament was 141.
