If you’re planning to do some Christmas shopping for the book lovers in your life, Carmina Suter recommends first stopping by the Santa Fe 5/6 Center’s community book fair in December. A wide variety of books will be available at the fair, and the proceeds will support educational activities at the school. “We want to have the money to be able to do those things,” said Suter, who is a member of the PTO. The fair will be at the Santa Fe 5/6 Center, 130 W. Broadway. Times are from 3 to 4 p.m. Dec. 3; 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 and 5; and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 6 and 7. The book fair will include Scholastic products for all ages, from preschool to adult. The school also will offer pictures with Santa and book fair gift wrapping available for a donation on Dec. 4 and 5. Suter said the book fair proceeds will help to sponsor special activities at the school that help children learn in unique ways, such as the purchasing of books and last year’s authentic “tea party” with tea and scones. Without the extra funding from the book fair, some of these activities might not be possible, Suter said. Last year the school raised about $2,200, and this year their goal is $5,000. Suter said anyone in the community is welcome to come shop at the book fair, and their purchases also will help Scholastic support literacy for those who may not be able to afford to purchase a book on their own. If you aren’t able to make it to the school for the book fair, you can shop online now through Dec. 10 at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/santafefifthsixth.
