  • HESSTON — The Hesston College women’s basketball team had little trouble taking control of an outmanned Central Christian College junior varsity, winning 87-24 Saturday night in the Hesston College Thanksgiving Classic. Hesston used its entire bench in the game, often substituting hockey-style, five at a time. All 14 players who dressed scored. “This was a game where it was kind of nice to have an easy win after all the tough games we’ve had the last two weeks,” Hesston coach Dan Harrison said. “I thought our girls showed a lot of unselfishness. There were a lot of nice assists.” Kelli Christenson and Makayla Ladwig led Hesston with 12 points each. Central was led by Kaitlyn Metz with 11 points. Hesston jumped out 27-0. The Tigers took just three shots in that span. Central finally scored on a Gabbie Salazar layup with 9:55 left in the half. Central finally hit double digits in scoring on a Kaitlyn Metz trey 4:17 remaining in the half. Hesston led 51-14 at the half. The Larks were 22 of 37 shooting. Central was four of 14. Hesston opened the second half on 12-0 run. Central scored on a Natalie Johnson trey with 12:37 remaining in regulation. Hesston, 6-4, hosts top-ranked (NJCAA Division II) Johnson County Community College at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a key Region VI game. “We need to make a statement,” Harrison said. “We need to play hard. We need to show they just can’t come in here and push around. They are the number one team in the nation for a reason.” Northern Oklahoma-Enid 75, Southeast (Neb.) CC 60 Marisha Wallace scored 40 points to lead Northern Oklahoma-Enid to a 75-60 win over Southeast (Neb.) Community College. Kati Sullivan added 12 points for the Jets. The 7-3 Storm was led by Mesha Phillips with 20 points and Olivia Moore with 10.CENTRAL CHRISTIAN JV — Salazar 1-7 0-2 2, Fairchild 0-3 0-2 0, Johnson 1-6 1-2 4, Lott 0-0 0-0 0, Curtis 0-0 0-0 0, Matz 3-8 3-7 11, Dahl 0-0 0-0 0, Jamison 2-4 3-6 7, TOTALS 7-28 7-19 24.
