  • HC men sweepBEATRICE, Neb. — The Hesston College men’s basketball team swept a pair of games Friday and Saturday at the Southeast (Neb.) Community College Classic in Beatrice. Hesston downed host Southeast 89-81 Friday and the Concordia (Neb.) junior varsity 87-56 Saturday. Against Southeast, Hesston led 38-33 at the half. Mahlon Jones scored 23 points for the Larks, followed by Pierre Zook with 20, Alex Santiago with 16 and William Barnes with 10. Tra Smook had 10 rebounds. For Southeast, Delquan Thomas scored 30 points with 10 rebounds. Josh Roberts scored 15 points. Trey Porter scored 13 points. Stats for Saturday’s game were not posted at press time. Friday, Hesston downed the Doane junior varsity 76-62, Saturday, the Larks fell to the Concordia (Neb.) junior varsity 72-66. Against Doane, Hesston led 31-27 at the half. Berean Academy grad Makayla Ladwig led the Larks with 16 points, followed by Nikki Lowry with 13 and Rachel Miller with 12. Claire Phillips led Doane with 13 points. Liz Otto added 10 points. Against Concordia, Hesston trailed 35-25 at the half. For Concordia, Kasi Stolrz scored 21 points. Ashley Kuntz scored 17 points with 10 rebounds. Taylor Wissing scored 12 points with 10 rebounds. Emma Urbanek scored 12 points.
