He had a record of 136-93 overall, 85-40 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play. “This was a difficult decision for me to make,” Schilling said, “but it was one that I felt was best for the program and for me personally. I will be forever grateful to those that gave me the opportunity to be a part of the athletic department, volleyball program and the Bethel community as a whole.” Schilling was KCAC coach of the year twice — 2006 and 2008. His team won the KCAC title and post-season tournament title in 2008. The team reached the NAIA national tournament in 2008. His teams received NAIA regional berths under a previous post-season format in 2006 and 2007. This past season, Bethel was 12-19, 6-12 in KCAC play. Bethel lost in the first round ofthe KCAC post-season tournament. Schilling spent 11 seasons as an assistant coach at Bethel under Bev Mayer. The team won six conference titles in that time. A 1996 Bethel grad, Schilling started as a student assistant. “Chad was the first person I met at Bethel during my interview here,” Bethel athletic director Kent Allshouse said, “and he has been a fantastic friend and co-worker since I arrived. He has been a reliable, hard-working employee that I have leaned upon many times. “Come January, Chad may no longer be a Bethel College athletic department employee, but he will always be a member of the Thresher family.” Allshouse said a search for a new volleyball coach and sports information director will begin immediately.
