Vearl M. Webb Jr., 74, passed away Nov. 5, 2012. He was born July 17, 1938, to Vearl and Juanita (George) Webb Sr. in Wathena. He coached numerous sports in the Manhattan community for over 35 years, winning several awards, including Kansas State Coach of the Year in 1992. Vearl was an avid K-State fan, holding season tickets for 43 years. He enjoyed tailgating and attending Bowl games with family and friends. He visited all of the Big 12 stadiums. He also was a devoted Royals fan, and if he couldn't watch a game, he listened to it on the radio. Vearl worked as an office manager for Baril Construction in Manhattan for 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Nita Kay Carpentier. Vearl is survived by his wife, Sandy; children, Steve (Priscilla) Webb, Cheri (Bob) Wilkens, Michelle Webb, Heather Webb, and Tony (Megan) Webb; step-children, Julie (Rodney) Harmon, Lisa Langdon, Lane (Brandy) Bush, and Mark (Becky) Bush; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Jerry Webb. A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502.
