The alarm came in at around four o’clock this afternoon. Several miles southwest of the City of St. John – upwards of one-hundred big alfalfa round bales on fire. Firefighters arrived immediately, but the damage was done.

An area farmer saw a pickup truck leaving the area shortly before the fire was discovered. That lead is being investigated.

The owner of the property is Jennifer Harrison. Harrison stated, “I can almost understand somebody stealing the round bales for profit, but it just doesn’t make sense simply destroying them.” The loss is estimated at over $10,000.

Stafford County law enforcement is investigating this fire as well as others that have occurred in the county over the past few months. Contact the Sheriff’s office if you have any information relating to any of the fires.
