  •  Hesston men down KSU-SHESSTON — The Hesston College men’s basketball team held off a big second-half rally to down Kansas State-Salina 108-104 Saturday at Yost Center. Hesston led 66-48 at the half. The Larks were 21 of 35 shooting in the first half, seven of 13 from 3-point range. Hesston fell to 13 of 34 in the second half, two of nine from beyond the arc. K-State-Salina was 39 of 84 from the field for 46.4 percent, hitting 14 of 35 from 3-point range. Pierre Zook led the Larks with 26 points, hitting 12 of 12 from the line, followed by Aaron Jones with 25 points. Tra Smoot scored 14 points with 13 rebounds. Mason Davis scored 10 points. DeMarien Smith scored 35 points with 10 rebounds for K-State-Salina. Kevin Logan scored 30 points. Bill Sams scored 30 points. Hesston led 53-18 and never looked back. The junior Tigers were held to 22.2 percent shooting from the field (12 of 54). Hesston was 29 of 83 for 34.9 percent. Hesston outscored Central 21-3 from 3-point range. Destiva Davis led the Larks with 18 points, followed by Makayla Ladwig with 12, Bryana Young with 11 and Khrystian Glover with 10. Brooke Rhodes and Kadetra O’Brine led Central with seven points each. McKee passed for 226 yards with four touchdowns and rushed for 94 yards and two touchdowns in a 51-27 Tabor win over Southwestern. Moundridge High School grad Katie Vogts, a junior at Tabor College, was named KCAC volleyball hitter of the week. Vogts had 46 kills in three matches, along with five blocks and 34 digs.Thunder downs Missouri in OTWICHITA — The Wichita Thunder swept a three-game weekend series with the Missouri Mavericks, winning 4-3 Sunday at Intrust Bank Arena in Central Hockey League play. Kevin Young scored the game-winner 32 seconds into overtime with assists from Matt Summers and R.G. Flath. Chad Painchaud, Neil Trimm and Summers each added a goal. Kevin Regan had 32 saves in goal. For Missouri, Kenton Miller scored two goals. Dave Pszenyczny added a goal. Austin Lee had 23 saves for the Mavericks. Saturday in Independence, Mo., Wichita won 6-4. Ian Lowe and Trimm each scored two goals with an assist for Wichita. Flath and Summers each added a goal. Torrie Jung had 35 saves in goal. For Missouri, Sebastien Thinel scored a goal with an assist. Jamie VanderVeeken, Kellen Tochkin and Colt King each added a goal. Mathieu Corbell had 28 saves in goal.
