  • Incumbent Ron Krehbiel said he chose to run for office again to continue the work he’s started while serving on the county commission. He said he has served on the commission for 12 years and served 25 years with the Harvey County sheriff’s department. “I’m a strong Harvey County fan,” he said. “... I want to do what we can to keep it going.” He said his goals, if elected, are keeping the county budget balanced and avoiding raising taxes. He would like the county to continue looking into waste-to-energy projects, such as the ICM gasifier across from the Harvey County Transfer Station (the gasifier converts trash and waste products like old tires into a renewable source of energy). He would like to see the creation of more new jobs in Harvey County, and he said he also believes it may be time to put the Kansas Logistics Park project on hold for a while due to the economy and focus on other projects. He said he always is available to talk to community members about questions or concerns they may have. “I like people, I like Harvey County,” he said. “I feel like I’m honest and (have) common sense.”— Note: This article is based on information collected for the primary election earlier this year.
