  • Incumbent Marge Roberson decided to run for office again because of her continued interest in local government (she is a write-in candidate in this election). “I have been a county commissioner for the last eight years and prior to that I was a Newton city commissioner,” she said. “I believe our government has to be open and honest with our citizens, and work together to provide solutions to problems.” She said she believes she is the best person for the job because she has experience, and she is willing to listen to all sides of the issues and make decisions based on logic, not rhetoric. “If I make a mistake I can own it, and do what it takes to correct it,” she said. “I can stand firm on decisions and not be pressured by special interests.” One of the main issues of the election for her is the Kansas Logistics Park. She believes it is a work in progress, and will need careful monitoring to make sure Harvey County is getting the most from the dollars spent. The city and county also should continue to work closely together to make the project as successful as the city/county airport. She also wants to see a bold, new approach to health care, including continuing collaboration efforts between the Health Department, Health Ministries and Prairie View. She thinks it is important for the county to continue promoting job growth by supporting the Harvey County Economic Development Council in their work of bringing industry to this area, and working with the Chamber to look at the retail sector, and how the county can help promote the all the towns in the area.— Note: This article is based on information collected for the primary election earlier this year.
