Meals on Wheels
The following is the Meals on Wheels menu for Sunday, Nov. 4, through Saturday, Nov. 10. Items for people with diabetes are listed in parentheses.
Sunday — Creole chicken breast, rice, California vegetables, tropical fruit, roll, sherbet, (sugar-free ice cream), milk.
Monday — Turkey and noodles with cheese, peas and carrots, pineapple and bananas, roll, graham crackers, milk.
Tuesday — Beef tips, rice, broccoli, plums, roll, vanilla pudding, (sugar-free pudding), milk.
Wednesday — Pork chop in onion gravy, mashed potatoes, creamed peas, peaches, roll, milk.
Thursday — Goulash, green beans, pineapple, roll, bread pudding with lemon sauce, (sugar-free pudding).
Friday — Baked fish, macaroni and cheese, sugar snap peas, apricots, roll, chocolate chip cookie, (graham crackers), milk.
Saturday — Hamburger, bun, french fries, four-bean salad, banana, milk.
Those interested in receiving meals should call 283-3500. The meals are prepared by Newton Medical Center and are delivered by volunteers seven days a week, including holidays. Diabetic diets are served when ordered by a physician.
The American Red Cross Good Neighbor Nutrition Program meals served at the Newton Area Senior Center, 122 E. Sixth, will be:
Nov. 5 — Tuna pasta casserole, green peas, rosy applesauce, sugar cookies, dinner roll
Nov. 6 — Meatloaf, mashed potato casserole, pea lettuce salad with dressing, fruited gelatin, whole wheat bread
Nov. 7 — Sloppy joe on bun, capri vegetables, macaroni salad, apricot mix
Nov. 8 — Chicken cacciatore, garden rice pilaf, garden veg salad with dressing, fruity ambrosia, whole wheat bread
Nov. 9 — Egg scramble with bacon bits, oven fried potatoes, fresh banana, blueberry muffin square
The meals are served at 11:45 a.m. weekdays, excluding holidays.
Contributions are encouraged. The suggested contribution for a meal for those age 60 and older is $2. However, no person will be denied a meal due to an inability to pay. (The meal for each day’s volunteers is provided.) Reservations must be made with the site manager or the Senior Center director at 283-2222 three weekdays before the meal.
