  •   Buhler High singers to join with Bethel choirs, orchestra for Vivaldi “Gloria”

  • NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Three choirs from Buhler High School will be part of concert that also features Bethel College student musicians, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. Greg Bontrager will direct the Buhler High Singers, Varsity Choir and Freshman Choir in “Sing Unto God” by G.F. Handel (arr. David Stocker) and “Rejoice” by Jeffery L. Ames. The Buhler High Singers will also perform “Os Justi” by Anton Bruckner. The Buhler choirs will be followed by the Bethel College Women's Chorus and the Bethel College Concert Choir, under the direction of William Eash, professor of music. The Women's Chorus will perform “I Will be Earth” by Gwyneth Walker and “The Song of Ruth” by David Childs. The Concert Choir will present “O Nata Lux” by Andrew Steffen, “Cells Planets” arranged by Vince Peterson and “Way Over in Beulah Lan'” arranged by Stacey Gibbs. After an intermission, the Buhler choirs will join with the Bethel College Women's Chorus, Men's Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra to sing “Gloria” by Antonio Vivaldi. Soloists will be Julia Miller, senior from Hesston, Allison Yoder, senior from Kalona, Iowa, and Mycah Westhoff, sophomore from Newton, sopranos; Renee Reimer, senior from Sioux Falls, S.D., alto; and Aaron Tschetter, junior from Freeman, S.D., baritone. In addition to the Chamber Orchestra, featured instrumentalists are Rich Toevs, Newton, keyboard, and Bethel students Evan Koch, junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., on trumpet, and Karina Ortman, sophomore from Marion, S.D., on oboe. Timothy Shade, Bethel assistant professor of music, will conduct the “Gloria.” “This will be a fantastic evening,” Shade said.
