OLATHE — The Newton High School gymnastics team had a season-high score of 92.3 for a second-place finish Oct. 9 in a quadrangular at Olathe North. Anna Casper had a season-high all-around of 32.8 for second place. She won the uneven parallel bars with a season-high 8.3. She tool second on vault at 8.4, second on balance beam with a season-high 8.4 and scored a 7.7 on floor exercises. Emmaleah Smet took fifth in all-around at 28.15, taking fifth on bars with a season-high 6.9. Smet scored a season-high 7.05 on floor, a 7.9 on vault and a 6.3 on beam. Macy Simmons had a season-high 8.3 on vault for fourth place. She scored a season-high 6.5 on bars and a 7.0 on floor. Emily Kuhn placed fifth on vault at 8.1. Kuhn scored a 6.2 on bars and a 6.6 on beam. Naomi Epp scored a 6.4 on bars, a 6.5 on beam and a 7.35 on floor. Alexandra Glann scored a 4.4 on bars, a fifth-place 7.6 on beam and a 7.75 on floor. Deanna Opland scored a 5.7 on beam and a season-high 7.4 on floor. Newton competes at noon Saturday at the state championships at Lawrence High School.
