In addition to weekly church services, this weekend there are three special events for the faith community, a good weekend to celebrate faith. 1. Hear some music.Christian singer Paul Wright will perform Saturday night at Norm's Coffee Bar, 125 W. Sixth. Laugh a bit. Christian comedian Greg Strange will appear in concert at 7 p.m. tonight and again at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 801 N. Main St., part of a weekend of events emphasizing community building. During the 20 years of his career, Strange has performed more than 3,000 concerts to an estimated 500,000 people. Strange has recorded 12 CDs and averages 150 concerts per year, including praise and worship, funny songs and a message from God’s Word in each concert. Blessing of the animalsBlessing of Animals will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 2001 Windsor Drive. Early each October, churches of various denominations – predominantly Catholic, Episcopal, and Lutheran – open their doors to all creatures great and small to honor St. Francis of Assisi (ca. 1181-1226), the patron saint of animals. St. Frances is universally recognized as their spiritual protector and is remembered with a service known simply as the "Blessing of the Animals."
