  • Governor announces appointments to boards and commissions

  • Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback recently announced appointments to state boards and commissions. “I appreciate the willingness of these talented Kansans to use their knowledge and expertise to serve their state and communities,” said Governor Brownback. “I’m confident that these individuals will serve the state with distinction.” The governor’s office is always looking for qualified, interested Kansans to serve the state on commissions and boards in their areas of expertise. If you are interested in serving on a commission or board, visit governor.ks.gov/serving-kansans/office-of-appointments.Kansas Statewide Independent Living CouncilThe mission of the SILCK is to develop a state plan through external input, which ensures independent living for Kansans; advocate for the accomplishment of the state plan objectives; monitor, review and evaluate the implementation of the plan; and be a statewide catalyst for independent living. - Cindi Unruh, Newton, is the executive director of the Independent Living Resource Council in Wichita, and has spent more than 10 years working in development for non-profit organizations, including the American Heart Association and Kansas Humane Society. Unruh is a consumer representative.Physician Assistant CouncilThe Physician Assistant Council advises the State Board of Healing Arts regarding issues involving physicians assistants. - Jay Wedel, PA-C, Hesston, is a certified physician assistant at Mid-Kansas Family Practice. He also is a board member of the Kansas Board of Healing Arts and an ALS provider/instructor with the City of Hesston EMS. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Goshen College, a bachelor’s degree in physician assistant studies from Wichita State University, and his master of physician assistant studies from the University of Nebraska School of Medicine. Wedel is being re-appointed to a three-year term to represent physician assistants.Kansas State Fair BoardThe Kansas State Fair Board is a 13-member board appointed by the Governor that acts as the showcase of Kansas agriculture, commerce and industry. It provides education and entertainment, and presents a comprehensive format for the state fair. - Jennifer Mueller, Newton, is the director of sales and marketing for the Newton Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau. She was previously an advertising sales representative for the Newton Kansan newspaper. She also serves on the Kansas Health Foundation Committee. Mueller is a representative of the travel industry.
