  •  Trinity Heights United Methodist Church will celebrate the opening of its new playground, designed to be accessible for all children, at 2 p.m. Sunday. Everyone is invited to come. The church is located at 12th and Boyd, Newton.A previous playground on the site, enjoyed by church members and nearby residents, had been dismantled due to a large remodeling project. When a new playground was discussed, church members chose to design a space that would encourage children of all abilities to play together with their friends. The ground is covered with cushiony artificial turf that is wheelchair accessible. A unique “AeroGlider” play structure allows several people, including those in wheelchairs, to ride together. The playground is fenced so kids can play freely without running away, and includes benches for care providers to sit.The playground was funded by church member donations and by community donations in memory of Hadley Davidson, Helen Hensiek and Jim Mohrbacher. The Davidson, Hensiek and Mohrbacher families are members of Trinity Heights UMC. In addition, Trinity Heights Respite Care obtained grants to assist with the playground project. Trinity Heights Respite Care provides subsidized respite care for families of children with special needs, and offers a monthly Parents Day Out program at the church.
