Geesje Goodwin died at 1:40 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 23) after a long illness.?She was born on Feb. 23, 1949, to Hendrick (Henry) and Antje (Annie) Bouma Pyl in Grouw, Friesland, Netherlands. Annie preceded her in death in July 2002.?The family immigrated to Newton in January 1960. She married Terryl (Terry) Jack Goodwin on Oct. 7, 1966. He preceded her in death in August 2000. Geesje was very proud of becoming a United States citizen on Sept. 18, 1978.?Geesje had many, many hobbies. She adored flower gardening, with many a stranger often stopping to praise her handiwork. She loved bingo, crafted beautiful works of painted glass and couldn’t get enough play time with her Facebook friends and online gaming. In her later years, she became a very avid reader with a book always in hand. Those who knew her best knew she could never get enough of the warmth of the sun upon her face.?Geesje is survived by her father, Henry Pyl of Hesston; sons, Terry Dean Goodwin (Heather) from Twin Lakes, Wis., and Jeffrey Brian Goodwin and Valerie Romero; brother, Jelke Pyl (Cindy) of Newton; sister, Alie Gadd of Newton; four grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.?A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday (Sept. 28, 2012) at Hesston United Methodist Church of Hesston.
