  • Donna Jane Wiebe Regier was born to Waldimar and Esther Wiebe on April 4, 1953, the third of eight children. She grew up on a farm near Elbing. When she was 8-years-old, she accepted Christ into her life, and was baptized and joined the Emmaus Mennonite Church at age 16. On Sept. 16, 1978, she married the love of her life, Jerry Regier, and they made their home on a farm east of Newton. They had three children: Rachel, Melanie and Gregory. Donna loved to teach children the Bible. She taught sixth grade Sunday school class for 15 years at First Mennonite Church. One of her passions was helping children memorize Bible verses with cards on a key ring. Donna also invested much time in Newton Weekday Bible School, teaching for many years and later working as a supervisor. Donna loved life on the farm: planting trees, shrubs and flowers all over the yard; working with Jerry in the fields; raising bucket calves and chickens; and visiting many friends and neighbors. She loved sharing her home and her love through cooking, and enjoying many laughs with her children. After a long battle with cancer, Donna passed away peacefully on Friday (Sept. 21, 2012), surrounded by her family. We rejoice she is with Jesus in heaven, trading her old body for a new one (2 Corinthians 5:4). She was preceded in death by her parents, Waldimar and Esther Wiebe; her sister, Laura Mae; and brother, Vernon. She is survived by husband, Jerry Regier; daughters, Rachel (and Chris) Pardee of Boston, and Melanie Regier of Siloam Springs, Ark.; son, Greg Regier of Manhattan; brothers, Doug (and Helen) Wiebe, Gordon (and Terry) Wiebe, and Laurence (and Marilyn) Wiebe; and sisters, Florene (and Ernie) Goering, and Marcy (and Tom) Dorsch. Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. today (Sept. 25, 2012) at Grace Community Church fireside room. The graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 26, 2012) at Greenwood Cemetery, followed by a celebration of Donna’s life at 11 a.m. at Grace Community Church. Memorials are: Newton Weekday Bible School and Berean Academy, and can be sent to Grace Community Church, 1600 County Road 819, Newton, KS 67114.
