Faith & Life Bookstore in Newton will host a community food drive in cooperation with Agape Resource Center during Christian Store Week Sept. 28 through Oct. 6. Additionally, a special enhanced CD compilation will be available for a donation to raise awareness of the need for food assistance and support World Vision U.S. food and anti-poverty programs.
“We want to do our part to help meet the practical needs of local families — there are many families in our area that could benefit greatly from just a bag of groceries,” said Bethany Martin of Faith and Life Bookstore. “In addition, the simple purchase of a $5 CD can offer help for those around the United States who are hungry.”
Government agencies report one in five U.S. children live in poverty and the rate of families who are “food insecure” has risen 30 percent since 2006, totaling more than 17 million families.
The 18-title CD, “Lift Up: Artists and Authors Unite to Feed America’s Hungry Children,” features Christian songs, Bible, books and more. Musicians, artists, authors, retailers and publishers have donated royalties and all fees and profits, plus provided in-kind services so 100 percent of the donations are available for program support.
As part of the campaign, Faith & Life Bookstore will be giving away prizes throughout the week and will host two author book signings: Naomi Gaede-Penner from 3 to 4 p.m. Oct. 4 and Morgan Busse from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 6.
