McKinley Residential Historic District’s annual home tour
Three event highlights:
1) Living history. This Newton neighborhood was placed on the Kansas Historic Register and the National Register of Historic Places in 2008, and the tour will feature four homes with a range of architectural styles from 1880 to 1925.
2) Explore. See architectural details on the tour such as arched entryways, a cross-gabled roof and elaborate scrollwork braces. The four homes are: the W.W. Regier House, 309 E. First St.; Lander House, 317 E. Third St.; National Folk-style house, 308 E. Second St.; and Johnson House, 324 E. Third St.
3) Antiques and activities. In addition to the homes, other highlights of the tour include displays of vintage automobiles; a raffle of several antique collectibles; and an architectural detail scavenger hunt with door prizes.
Event facts When: From 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Cost: Tickets for the home tour are $10 per adult and can be purchased during the tour at the McKinley Administration Center, 308 E. First St. Tickets will not be sold in advance. Proceeds will benefit the McKinley Residential Historic District Neighborhood Association.
