Shirley Jean Holmes Sadowski died on Wednesday (Sept. 19, 2012) at her home at Presbyterian Manor in Newton. She was born on Feb. 16, 1930, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Gerald S. and Coyla I. Stuckey Holmes. Shirley graduated from Newton High School in 1948. Shirley married Richard E. Sadowski on May 23, 1948, at First United Methodist Church in Newton. For several years, Shirley had worked at Regier Title and later for the City Water Department. Shirley and Richard moved to Independence, where they lived for 10 years before returning to Newton. Survivors include her husband, Richard of the home; sons, Larry Sadowski and wife, Anita, and Michael Sadowski and wife, Julie; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, all of Newton. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ronald E. Holmes. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 25, 2012) at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton. There will be no visitation or viewing as her body has been donated to the K.U. Medical Center for research.
