The Newton High School boys’ soccer team had some uncomfortable moments early, but settled down for a 4-1 win over Goddard Eisenhower Tuesday at Fischer Field. The win was Newton’s second over the Tigers this season. Newton beat Eisenhower 6-0 at the Goddard Invitational. “A lot of our start tonight was psychological,” Newton coach Scott Jantzi said. “We came out flat. We took them lighter than we should have. The goal we gave them should have never happened. We only had four shots in the first half. We need to create more opportunities.” Ryan Stuchlik scored for Newton in the ninth minute with an assist from Francisco Fierros. Jacob Gasho answered for Eisenhower in the 28th minute on the Tigers’ first and only shot of the game. Mark Kreider put the Railers back in the lead with a goal in the 39th minute with an assist from Jared Rangel. Frank Vasquez scored twice for the Railers early in the second half. Kreider and Rangel each had an assist. Nat Dick claimed the win in goal for Newton. Nate Obr had eight saves. Newton improves to 6-3 and plays Andover Central at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Andover District Stadium. “They are a good quality squad,” Jantzi said. “We’re going to have to do a much better job of preparing mentally and be ready to play. The longer you keep a team in the game, the more confident that team plays. We have to come out strong early. We have not done a good job of coming back this season. Our goal all year has been to score first and go from there.”
