  • Newton woman dead following accident

  •  A Newton woman is dead following a one-vehicle accident Sunday night.Beverly Rutschman, 39, of Newton, was declared dead at Hutchinson Hospital following an accident in the 8200 block of of N. Woodberry.At about 9 p.m. Sunday emergency units were dispatched to the area of N. Woodberry and Dutch in regards to an injury accident. Sheriff Officers discovered a 1994 extended cab Chevy pickup had gone down a 20’ embankment and landed on its passenger side in the Blaze Fork Creek.Rutschman had been partially ejected from the vehicle and was trapped by the vehicle under water.According the the Harvey County Sheriff's department the driver of the truck, 18 year old Cory Rutschman of Newton, apparently lost control of the vehicle negotiating the curves. He is currently in stable condition at St. Francis hospital. There were two passengers in the back seat of the truck, 18 year old Spencer Fast of Moundridge, who is now listed in stable condition at St. Francis hospital and 19 year old Chad Janzen of Hesston, who was flown out of the scene by Eagle Med is listed in critical condition at St. Francis Hospital.The accident is still under investigation by the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office.
