Gavino “Gabby” Corona, 89, of Newton, died Thursday (June 13, 2013) at Newton Medical Center.

He was born on Jan. 13, 1924, in Waukegan, Ill., the son of Gertrudes and Casimira Gutierrez Corona. The family moved to Newton when Gabby was a teenager. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Gavino married Margaret Estrada on Oct. 12, 1946, in Newton. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for many years, retiring in 1984.

Carolyn was born in 1942 in Kansas City to Lawerence and Marguerite Erfurth. She was married to Harold Patrick in 1961, and they recently celebrated their 51st anniversary.

He was born April 11, 1962, in Manhattan, Kan., the son of Daniel J. and Maree Kae O'Daniels.

He was a 1983 graduate of McPherson High School and was the Warehouse and Delivery Manager at Sears, Newton, Kan. On June 26, 2000, he married Jenette Linscheid in McPherson. She survives.
