By Ashley Bergner?Newton Kansan?Halstead fire crews spent an hour Wednesday fighting a grass fire.?Fire Chief Jim Van Schaick said a call came in at about 3:30 p.m. about a fire on Halstead Road, in between 60th and just past 84th.?Van Schaick said while the fire spread through a ditch and out into a few fields and up a tree row, there was no major damage.?He believes the fire was started by a vehicle with a bearing out, or a similar cause. He urges people to use caution in the dry weather.?“There’s no moisture, and it doesn’t take very long to get (a fire) started,” he said.
