The Newton Rebels will meet Impact Sports of Colorado at 1 p.m. Sunday in the first round of the 78th National Baseball Congress World Series at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita.

Newton is in the tournament for the seventh time in 12 seasons of play. The Rebels are making their first appearance since 2009.

The Rebels enter the tournament 23-20.

Impact Sports plays in the Rocky Mountain League, finishing third at 17-10, four games behind the league winner Colorado Sox. The team is 20-13 overall.

Impact Sports is led by Paul Sing of Colorado State-Pueblo with a .439 batting average, five home runs and 24 RBIs. Jeremy Soliday of Southwest Oklahoma State is hitting .408 with two home runs and 25 RBIs.

Russell Piconni of Regis University is 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 16 strikeouts. Cody Lahman of Colorado Mesa University is 4-2 with a 2.81 ERA and 34 strikeouts.

Newton is led by Edgar Lopez of Central Oklahoma with a .348 batting average and 20 RBIs. Romus Cezar of Oklahoma Sciences and Arts is batting .301 with 12 RBIs. Rodge Macy is batting .291 with three home runs and 23 RBIs.

Pitcher Nathan Briar of Fort Hays State is 4-1 with two saves, a 1.37 ERA and 24 strikeouts. Storm Marlar of Cowley County is 2-2 with a 1.93 ERA and 39 strikesouts. Both are Newton High grads.
