What it is The salary of the city’s parking control officer. The position is part time.

Officer duties Under the supervision of the lieutenant, the parking control officer is responsible for enforcing all parking ordinances within the city of Newton. The employee in this position checks for parking violations and issues citations.
“A considerable amount of public contact is involved with this position, and duties follow prescribed policies and procedures,” said Public Information Officer Erin McDaniel.
These duties include:
• Marking tires on all vehicles parked in timed areas within the city.
• Checking all handicapped and “no parking” zones for illegally parked vehicles.
• Issuing summonses and citations for violations and maintaining records of summonses written.
• Working with the public explaining parking regulations.
• Assisting with transporting female prisoners and assisting the records clerk with duties.
• Picking up tickets from red boxes downtown.

Revenue The city took in $8,619 in parking fines in 2010; $10,650 in 2011; and $5,366.68 in 2012 (as of June 30).
