The Hesston High School softball team made quick work of the Ellinwood Eagles, sweeping a doubleheader Tuesday in non-league road play.


The Hesston High School softball team made quick work of the Ellinwood Eagles, sweeping a doubleheader Tuesday in non-league road play.

Hesston won the first game 17-1 and the second game 13-1. The first game was called after four innings on the 15-run rule. The second game was called after six innings on the 10-run rule.

In the first game, Aubrey Denno pitched three innings for the win, allowing one run on one hit with two walks and five strikeouts. Danika Good struck out two of the three batters she faced in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Darian Gonzalez went four for four hitting with three RBis. Abby Shirley went three for four with an RBI. Megan Voth went two for three with two RBIs. Tayler Suhler went two for three with an RBI. Kate Bean went two for four with an RBI.

In the second game, Denno pitched the first inning, allowing a walk and striking out three. Good finished the game for the win, allowing a run on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Shirley went three for three hitting with a double and a triple. Suhler went two for two with three RBIs. Mikaela Needles went two for four with two RBIs. Kate Bean went three for five. Voth drove in two runs.

Hesston is 9-5 and hosts Nickerson at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
