The Newton High School softball team lost a pair of high-scoring games Tuesday at Salina Central.

Newton lost the first game 20-19 and the second game 13-9.

In the first game, Newton led 19-17, but gave up three runs in the bottom of the seventh for the loss. Taylor Goerend took the loss pitching for Newton.

In the second game, Newton trailed 10-2 after three innings, but scored five runs in the top of the fifth to get back in the game. Central scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth.

Haleigh Willis took the loss for Newton.

The Railers fall to 1-11, 1-7 in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I play. Newton hosts Derby at 4 p.m. Friday at Kelsch Field.
