The Newton High School boys’ golf team placed sixth Monday at the 11-team Derby Invitational at the Derby Country Club.


The Newton High School boys’ golf team placed sixth Monday at the 11-team Derby Invitational at the Derby Country Club.

Arkansas City won the team title at 312, followed by Wichita Heights at 323 and Derby at 336. Newton had a team score of 354. Caleb Haight of Wichita Heights won the individual title at 73, followed by Tayler Smith and Dax Shaw, both of Arkansas City, at 76.

Newton was led by Ludwig Risland at 86, one stroke off a medal. Dalton Ayers shot an 87, followed by Jared Fromm at 89, Joey Jaso at 92, Jared Gihring at 95 and Alex Pickard at 96.

Newton competes Thursday at the Swather Special at the Hesston Golf Park.
