Be aware today of email scams.
Newton Postmaster Robin Gay reported several Newton customers have contacted her regarding receiving suspicious emails that appear to be sent from the United States Postal Service.
Although these emails are stating they are from USPS Global, Global Services or USPS customer services, they are not USPS emails.
The emails tell customers they have a package being held for them, and they will be charged for each day the package is unclaimed.  The emails also give the recipient an invalid label number to reference. Once the accompanying link is clicked on, a virus infects the customer’s computer.
Global Business already has notified the Postal Inspection Service, which is investigating the issue.
Customers may report any fraudulent issues to the Postal Inspection Service via email at spam@uspis.gov.
