So, on Tuesday, I was talking to Fawn Schmidt, owner of Studio Q in Newton, one of three quilt shops in downtown Newton.

She said she’s moving back east and needs to sell her business. I believe she said she’d be leaving by fall and would like to have some overlap time with the new owner, to help the new owner out. She said it was OK for me to share this information.

Studio Q is in the Prairie Harvest building downtown. Just go inside Prairie Harvest in the main doors and then go to the back near the Prairie Room. To the left of this room is a stairway to go up to Studio Q. Or you can use the elevator.

In Studio Q, Schmidt does long-arm quilting, conducts classes and sells a variety of items, including fabric, patterns and other quilting things.

I’ve included some photos of the store below and products to show you what gets sold there.

The fabrics and atmosphere in Studio Q are bright and cheery. Large windows let in a great deal of light, and there’s tables set up for people to make quilts.

Well, I hate to see Fawn go because she’s added a lot to the downtown area with her business, but life can always take twists and turns we don’t expect. Good luck, Fawn.

On the Yankee Candle front, the business is offering free shipping right now when you spend $40 or more. Go to www.yankeecandle.com. I’d urge you to shop locally for Yankee Candles, but no one around here sells them. I think they are some of the best candles in the world. They’re not too strong and not too weak. I don’t like really strong candles to where I feel like I’m tasting the scent or I don’t like them too weak, either. I like them just right!

Until next time, happy quilting and hope you find your home comforting.
