The Newton High School boys’ golf team took third Friday at the Salina South Invitational at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.


The Newton High School boys’ golf team took third Friday at the Salina South Invitational at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.

Salina Central won the meet at 319. Newton and Maize were both one stroke back at 320. Maize held the fifth-score tie-breaker. Derby was at 321 and Hays was at 322.

Ben Hargrave of Salina South was top medalist at 76, winning a tie-breaker over three other golfers.

Newton was led by Dalton Ayers at 77 to take fifth. Lane Pauls was 14th at 79. Omar Ramos-Thaw and Jared Fromm each shot an 82. Shelby Grosch shot an 87. Ludwig Risland shot an 88.

Newton plays Thursday at the Swather Special.
