The Newton High School boys’ tennis team won its third straight meet, winning the title of the Valley Center Invitational Friday.


The Newton High School boys’ tennis team won its third straight meet, winning the title of the Valley Center Invitational Friday.

Newton edged Wichita Northwest 33-30 for the ream title. Valley Center Purples was third at 28. There were 11 teams in competition, including three Valley Center teams.

At first doubles, Josh Carlgren and Brooks Taylor finished 3-0 to win the flight, downing Brayley Bazzelle and Austin Hasse of Wichita Northwest 8-4.

At second singles, Riley Kingsley finished 3-0 to win the flight, downing Seth McDaniel of Wichita Northwest 8-4 in the finals.

At first singles, Jensen Kingsley took second, falling in the finals to Austin Autry of Wichita Northwest 8-3.

At second doubles, Keenan Zielke and Chase Payne finished 2-1 to take fifth.

Newton competes in the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I Championships April 30 in Maize.
