The Newton High School boys’ track team took second and the girls took third Friday at the 11-team Campus Invitational in Haysville.


The Newton High School boys’ track team took second and the girls took third Friday at the 11-team Campus Invitational in Haysville.

The Liberal boys downed Newton 143.5-125.5. Kapaun-Mt. Carmel won the girls’ competition at 166 points, followed by Liberal at 103 and Newton at 97.5.

Tyler Robinson won the boys’ 200-meter dash in 22.53. Robinson took third in the 100-meter dash in 11.28.

Cory Martens won the discus in 147-11 1/2. Jon Flores was third in 130-11.

Newton took second in the 4x800-meter relay in 8:27.84. Newton took second in the 4x100-meter relay in 44.48. Newton took third in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:30.30.

Kendall Schmidt took second in the shot put at 46-9 3/4, followed by Joseph McConnell in third at 46-9.

Rigo Magana took second in the pole vault at 12-6, followed by Zack Alexander in third at 11-6.

Matt Willis took second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 40.77.

For the Newton girls, Brooke Regier won the discus in 127-0, followed by Kendra Scott in third at 111-1 1/2.

Katie Loescher took second in the javelin in 126-5 1/2, followed by Rachel Volk in third in 103-0. Katie Loescher tied for third in the high jump at 5-0.

Andrea Baron took third in the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.41, and third in the 300-meter low hurdles in 51.37.

Larissa Espinoza took third in the long jump at 15-4 1/2.

Newton competes at 4 p.m. Friday at the El Dorado Invitational.
