The Garden City girls’ basketball team used runs in the second and third quarters to get past Rose Hill 49-36 in the consolation semifinals of the Newton Invitational Tournament.

Garden City, 8-5, plays in the consolation finals at 1:30 p.m. today. Rose Hill, 4-8, plays in the seventh-place game at noon.

Kristen Heiman scored 17 points for Garden City, followed by Taryn Temple with 13.

Emily Harris scored 10 points for Rose Hill.

Rose Hill opened the game with an 8-1 run, matched by a Garden City 8-1 run. The Rockets led 11-9 at the end of the quarter.

Garden City pulled away late to claim a 26-19 lead at the half.

Rose Hill opened the second half with a three-point play. Garden City put things away with a 12-2 run.
