The first league title for the Newton High School wrestling team in decades is now in sight after a 55-21 dual meet win over Campus Thursday in Haysville.

Newton improves to 7-0 in dual meets, 4-0 in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I duals. The Railers have two dual meets remaining.

The Railers won 10 of 14 matches, seven by fall, one by injury default, one by major decision and one by decision.

Wins by fall went to Quinton Harrison at 120 pounds, Anthony Monares at 132 pounds, Ryan Hutton at 160 pounds, Jared Langley at 170 pounds, Hugh McConnell at 182 pounds, Dillon Archer at 195 pounds and Raymond Gallegos at 220 pounds. Miles Johns won by injury default at 145 pounds. Gabe Torres won by major decision at 126 pounds. Earnest Johns won by decision at 113 pounds.

Losses for the Railers went to Justice Grant at 106 pounds by fall, Garrett McEachern at 138 pounds by decision, Heydon Mock at 152 pounds by fall and Garrett Lee at heavyweight by fall.

Newton competes today and Saturday at the Rocky Welton Invitational in Garden City. Newton hosts Salina Central at 6 p.m. Thursday.
