The Newton High School wrestling team claimed two titles and a third-place team finish Friday and Saturday at the Blue Valley Northwest Invitational.


The Newton High School wrestling team claimed two titles and a third-place team finish Friday and Saturday at the Blue Valley Northwest Invitational.

Manhattan won the team title with 266.5 points, followed by Lawrence at 192, Newton at 187, Bonner Springs at 114, Hutchinson at 99, Shawnee Mission East at 83.5, Topeka at 80.5, Blue Valley West at 78.5, Olathe East at 78, Olathe South at 67, Blue Valley North at 62, Blue Valley Northwest at 57, Shawnee Mission West at 56, Kansas City Turner at 53.5, Louisburg at 50, Andover at 30, Shawnee Mission Northwest at 20, Kansas City Washington at 16 and Blue Valley at three.

Winning titles for the Railers were Quinton Harrison, who finished 3-0 at 120 pounds; and Dillon Archer, who finished 4-0 at 195 pounds.

Taking second were Miles Johns, who finished 3-1 at 145 pounds; Ryan Hutton, who finished 3-1 at 160 pounds; and Garrett Lee, who finished 3-1 at heavyweight.

Anthony Monares took fourth at 132 pounds at 3-2. Fifth-place finishes went to Helam Hernandez at 132 pounds (3-2), Jared Langley at 170 pounds (3-2) and Hugh McConnell at 182 pounds (4-2).

Taking sixth were Garrett McEachern at 138 pounds (2-3) and Raymond Gallegos at 220 pounds (2-3).

Not placing were Earnest Johns at 113 pounds (2-2), Gabe Torres at 126 pounds (2-2) and Haydon Mock at 152 pounds (2-2).

Newton competes at 6 p.m. Thursday at Campus and then competes Friday and Saturday at the Rocky Welton Invitational in Garden City.
