Thomas Wade Wedel, 42, of Hesston was arrested for DUI and reckless battery following a three-car accident which sent three people to the hospital Friday night.
Wedel, who was tested at .223 blood alcohol level via breath test, was driving a Honda Pilot northbound on South Kansas Ave./K-15 when his vehicle rear-ended a 2009 Toyota Yar driven by Anita Heckerman, 61, of Newton at the intersection of South Kansas and Southeast 14th Streets. The Yar in turn struck a 2005 Ford Expedition driven by Bradley Dalke, 46, of Blue Mound, Ill.
Wedel, however, didn’t stop at impact. According to the Newton Police Department, Wedel continued to drive southbound and pushed the Heckerman vehicle  through the intersection.
“After the initial impact, he struck the vehicle as second time and pushed it out of the way,” said Lt. Eric Murphy of the Newton Police Department. “That led to a charge of reckless aggravated battery.”
