The 13th Annual Central Kansas Quilt Shop Hop starts tomorrow. The local quilt shop is in the hop.

This year, the theme fabric for the hop was designed by Jason Yenter, which to me is a very big name in the quilting world. He is with In The Beginning Fabrics. Last year, Yenter designed some really awesome Halloween fabric.

This year’s fabric has a Kansas theme to it and incorporates circles like Yenter likes to do.

The photo here was taken during a previous year’s shop hop.

Hours for the hop are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Participating shops are:

• Charlotte’s Sew Natural, 710 N. Main in Newton.

• Cottonwood Quilts, 126 N. Main in Hutchinson.

• Gramma’s Calico Cupboard, 1945 Hydraulic in Wichita.

• Hen Feathers, 110 N. Rock Road in Wichita.

• Itchin to Stitch, 1590 20th St. in Severy.

• Material Girls Quilt Shoppe, 535 Douglas, Suite 140 in Wichita.

• Needle in a Haystack, 207 Q Road in Severy.

• Picket Fence Quilt Company, 7130 W. Maple, No. 230 in Wichita.

• Quilting Bee, 120 S. Santa Fe in Salina.

• Sunflower Quilts, 405 Osage Road in Derby.

Each participating quilt shop will have sample block kits available for purchase. In the past, each store sold only one of the blocks, so you had to go around to all the stores to purchase the block kits. I’m figuring that’s the way they’re doing it this year. Each shop will sell its own finishing kit “particular to each shop.”

I’ve never gone on the entire shop hop. I’ve actually only made it to Charlotte’s on the hop, since that’s my favorite quilt shop in the whole world. I usually end up going to Charlotte’s the night before to buy fabric I’ve had my eye on so I get it before it’s sold out during the hop. I might be stopping by there tonight.

If you go on the shop hop, have a good time! For more information about the hop and to see all the shops’ quilts, visit http://www.centralkansasquiltshophop.4t.com/.

Quilt show

Also, don’t forget about the Emma Creek Quilt Guild show, which is Oct. 15 and 16 at the Hesston Elementary School, 300 E. Amos in Hesston. Admission is $5. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 15 and 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 16. You also can get donation drawing tickets for a chance to win the quilt made by guild members.

Watch for an article in The Newton Kansan about the show.

Until next time, happy quilting!
