Agenda items include a request to close Main Street from Fifth to Sixth on Oct. 22 for “Zombie Fest” sponsored by the Newton Community Theater, a request to close Main Street from Fifth to Seventh for the Halloween Walk sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, recognition of Tammy Bailey for induction into the Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers, a proclamation declaring Oct. 9 through 15 as Fire Prevention Week, an agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation for construction of an interchange at U.S. Highway 50 and Anderson, a resolution authorizing the city to participate in a consortium of counties to apply for a HUD Sustainable Community Planning Grant, consideration of electric and utility easements for Westar Energy, a license agreement with Westar to install an electrical line under rail easements for the Kansas Logistics Park, and a citizen’s forum.
