If you see owls and students on broomsticks flying around Newton High School this week, you should know you’re not in another dimension.

The school is just having homecoming this week, and the theme is “A Hogwarts Homecoming,” after the famous Harry Potter movies.

“NHS students will share with a Harry Potter at Hogwart’s-themed spirit week, and events will wrap up with the homecoming parade, coronation, football game and dance on Friday evening,” said Sherry Unruh with Newton public schools.

Homecoming fall royalty is Hugh McConnell, Kendall Schmidt, Noah Cleary, Jenna Rangel, Janneth Rodriguez and Holly Cox.

Students had a scavenger hunt Monday, and on Tuesday, they took part in a Harry Potter trivia event in the afternoon with movie night in Ravenscroft Gym on Tuesday night. Today, there’s a character look alike contest at 2:20 p.m. in Ravenscroft Gym and float building from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the 4-H Building.

On Thursday, students will take part in Wizards Chess at 2:20 p.m. in the commons area and quidditch matches at 7 p.m. at the school.

The parade starts at 5 p.m. Friday with the football game at 7 p.m. at Fischer Field in Newton. The parade starts at at First and Meridian, travels east on First Street to Grandview to the Athletic Park entrance and onto Fischer Field.

Coronation will be during the football game halftime, and a dance is at 10 p.m. at the school.
