Swathers split dual meets

LINDSBORG — The Hesston High School volleyball team claimed a split in a pair of matches Tuesday in Lindsborg.

Hesston downed Chapman 25-10, 25-4 in a non-league match. The Swathers then fell to host Smoky Valley 25-20, 25-21 in Central Kansas League play,

“We served well against Chapman, with 14 aces on 49 serves and only two errors,” Hesston coach Jason Peters said. “We didn’t get many balls coming back on our side of the net, especially in the second set, but we did a nice job of not losing our focus.

“Against Smoky Valley, we fell behind early in both sets, with serve receive passing and hitting errors. We made a good run in each set to get close, but we could never keep the momentum long enough to get ahead. Take away the first 10 points of each set and we outscored them, but we have to start stronger and play a complete match in order to win against the top teams in our league.”

Against Chapman, Ali Jost had eight kills, followed by Hannah Schmott with four, Laci McCartney with four and Alex Deegan with three. Megan Voth and Taylor King each had nine assists. Schmitt served seven aces. Jost had six digs, followed by Schmitt with five and McCartney with four.

Against Smoky Valley, Jost had seven kills, followed by Kelsey Unruh with four and Mikayla Hiebert with two. Voth had nine assists, followed by King with six. Deegan served four aces, followed by Schmitt with two. Schmitt had 15 digs, followed by Jost with four.

Hesston is 7-9 and 2-1 in CKL play. Smoky Valley is 12-5, 1-2 in the CKL. Hesston plays Tuesday at Kingman with Haven.

Remington spikers sweeps at Marion

MARION — The Remington High School volleyball team claimed three wins Tuesday in Heart of America League play at Marion.

Remington downed Inman 25-19, 31-29. Mandy McNeill had 19 assists and was 13 of 13 serving. Quin Tillotson had 11 kills and 10 total blocks. Chelsea Coats was nine of nine serving with 29 good passes. Jessi Green had nine kills. Emma Hilgenfeld had five kills. Madison Janzen was 15 of 15 serving.

Remington downed Marion 25-15, 23-25, 25-22. Janzen had 11 assists and two kills. Nicole Minder had 16 good attacks with four kills. Tillotson went 16 of 16 serving with five aces. Coats had 10 good passes and went 10 for 10 serving. Green had 25 good attacks with 11 kills.

Remington finished the night with a 25-17, 28-26 win over Canton-Galva. Tillotson had 18 total blocks, downing seven. McNeill had 14 assists and was 13 of 13 serving. Minder had 10 good blocks for the match. Lauren Berg had 11 good attacks.

Remington is 17-2, 7-0 in the HOAL. The Broncos play at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Douglass Invitational.

Goessel sweeps at Little River

LITTLE RIVER — The Goessel Bluebirds swept a Wheat State League triangular Tuesday at Little River.

Goessel downed Solomon 25-11, 25-10 and Little River 25-17, 25-23. Little River downed Solomon 25-13, 26-24.

Goessel is 10-4, 6-0 in WSL play. Goessel plays at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Olpe Invitational.

Halstead splits at Lyons tri

LYONS — The Halstead High School volleyball team split a pair of matches Tuesday in Lyons.

Halstead downed Lyons 25-7, 25-10 in Central Kansas League play. In non-league play, Halstead fell to Hutchinson Central Christian 25-21, 25-21. Central Christian downed Lyons 25-5, 25-10.

Halstead competes Tuesday at Kingman with Haven.

Hillsboro 1-1 at Pratt tri

PRATT — The Hillsboro Trojan volleyball team split a pair of Central Kansas League matches Tuesday at Pratt.

Hillsboro downed Kingman 25-13, 25-14 and lost to Pratt 26-24, 25-20. Pratt downed Kingman 25-12, 25-14.

Hillsboro is 14-3 and plays Tuesday at Lyons with Smoky Valley.

Cardinals claim wins at Bennington

BENNINGTON — The Sedgwick High School volleyball team claimed a pair of wins Tuesday in Heart of America League play in Bennington.

Sedgwick downed Bennington 25-20, 25-16 and Ell-Saline 25-14, 25-23. Bennington downed Ell-Saline 19-25, 25-20, 25-21.

Sedgwick plays Tuesday at Canton-Galva with Moundridge.

Berean splits, Moundridge swept

MOUNDRIDGE — The Berean Academy volleyball team split and the Moundridge High School spikers were swept Tuesday in a Heart of America League triangular in Moundridge.

Moundridge fell to Hutchinson Trinity 25-23, 25-12 and fell to Berean Academy 16-25, 25-16, 25-21. Berean fell to Hutchinson Trinity 21-25, 26-24, 25-20.

Moundridge is 8-9, 1-6 in HOAL play. Moundridge plays Tuesday at Canton-Galva with Sedgwick. Berean Academy plays Tuesday at home with Remington and Bennington.
