Velma Vernice Flaming, 88, passed away on Thursday (July 28, 2011) at Sunshine Home in Buhler.


Velma Vernice Flaming, 88, passed away on Thursday (July 28, 2011) at Sunshine Home in Buhler.

She was born on Sept. 20, 1922, in Goessel, the daughter of Edmond S. and Agatha Schmidt Hiebert. She was a homemaker and attended the Medora Community Bible Church.

On March 18, 1943, she married Abraham S. Flaming in Goessel. He passed away on June 3, 2010.

She is survived by one son, Wade of Grand Prairie, Texas; two daughters, Sally Flaming of Hutchinson and Jane Marriner of Washington, N.C; one grandchild; two brothers, Ervin of Halstead and John of Beatrice, Neb.; two sisters, Anna Mae Janzen of Hesston and Lela Goertz of St. James, Mo.; one stepbrother, Henry Dyck of Arizona; and two stepsisters, Mary Richert and Susan Voth, both of Goessel.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Sylvia Schmidt Goertz, and one brother, Salmon Hiebert.

The family greeting friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Buhler Mortuary in Buhler.

Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Fairlawn Cemetery in Hutchinson with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. Monday at Medora Community Bible Church in Medora with Pastor Wayne Johnson presiding.
