Shopping for school supplies can be a daunting task, imagine doing it for hundreds of children at a time — with no money.
A year ago the Salvation Army office on West Sixth Street distributed school supplies to more than 600 children in Harvey County, and anticipates trying to help that many again this year — if they have the markers, crayons, pencils , scissors and other items on the list to give.
“We have zero budget for school supplies this year,” said director Marcia Brazil. “We will have to rely totally on donations.”
She also said there are not enough school supplies on the shelves to serve all the eligible applications she expects to receive.
Applications for those seeking school supplies are due Friday, with a distribution of those school supplies set for Aug. 8.
