A state-level meeting to discuss water — most specifically water use in the Lower Arkansas River Basin — is coming to Newton.
The Kansas Water Office‘s Lower Arkansas Basin Advisory Committee will have a meeting to discuss current water issues affecting the basin area, as well as the state, at 9 a.m. June 1 at the City Service Center in the Utility Maintenance Training Room, 1100 S. Kansas.
The Kansas Water Office will present legislation and activities with emphasis on water quality throughout Kansas. Lower Arkansas Basin Advisory Committee membership recommendations to the Kansas Water Authority will be determined. Long- term public water supply for the basin will be discussed.
As the state’s water office, The Kansas Water Office performs water planning, policy coordination and water marketing, as well as facilitates public input throughout the state.
The agency prepares the Kansas water plan, a plan for water resources development, management and conservation. The Kansas Water Office also reviews all water laws and makes recommendations to the governor and legislature for legislation.
