Students and faculty of Emporia State University’s Department of Theatre brought home honors from the Region V meeting of the Kennedy Center American Theatre Festival, which was Jan. 16 through 22 at Iowa State University.


Students and faculty of Emporia State University’s Department of Theatre brought home honors from the Region V meeting of the Kennedy Center American Theatre Festival, which was Jan. 16 through 22 at Iowa State University.

A total of 32 ESU students attended the festival. Among those was Elise Blann of Newton.

Accomplishments at the festival included:

• A staged reading on Jan. 18 of “A Beautiful Lie,” an original work by junior Lindsay Ward of Gardner. Ward also directed the reading.

• Faculty designer Nancy Pontius, a professor in ESU’s theatre department, earned a commendation of excellence for her scenic design for “The Diviners,” presented in March 2010.
