The Newton High School boys’ swimming team finished the seasin with a 20th place finish at the Class 5-4-3-2-1A state championships Friday and Saturday in Topeka.


The Newton High School boys’ swimming team finished the seasin with a 20th place finish at the Class 5-4-3-2-1A state championships Friday and Saturday in Topeka.

Blue Valley won the meet with 381 points, followed by Bishop Carroll at 236 and Salina South at 221.5. Newton scored 38 points.

Cameron Spreier won the consolation finals of the 200-yard individual medley in 2:11.17, ninth overall. Spreier also won the consolation finals of the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.16, ninth overall.

Alex Trumble finished in 11th in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:25.34.

Matt Scheuermann placed 13th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.87.The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Spreier, Scheuermann, Adam Schmidt and Trumble finished in 14th in 1:40.02. The same team finished 15th in the 400-yard freestyle in 3:45.37.
