Hutchinson Trinity 44, Sedgwick 7

SEDGWICK — The Sedgwick Cardinals gave up 23 points in the first quarter, falling to Hutchinson Trinity 44-7 Thursday in a game that determined both the Heart of America League title and the runner-up spot in Class 3A district play.
Trinity improves to 8-1, 2-1 in the district and 6-0 in HOAL play. The Celtics tied for first in the district standings but lost the tie-breaker on head-to-head play against Garden Plain.
Sedgwick ends the season 6-3, 1-2 in district play and 5-1 in the HOAL.
Derek Racette was held to a season-low 121 yards passing, hitting five of 11 passes with an interception and a  touchdown. Racette rushed for two touchdowns.
Michael Mesh opened the game with an 85-yard kickoff return for a score. He then canned a 32-yard field goal, followed by a Racette run and a 53-yard pass from Racette to Mesh. Tyler Dyer added a touchdown run in the second quarter.
Sedgwick got on the board in the third quarter when Elliott Money hit a five-yard pass to Colby Huntoon, but Brandon Koenigsman stopped the rally with a 35-yard interception return for a score.
Dylan Todd rushed for 67 yards for the Cardinals. Money passed for 69 yards while Trent Stucky passed for 69 yards. Nate Day had four catches for 52 yards.
Trinity opens the Class 3A playoffs Tuesday at Remington.

LOST SPRINGS — The Centre Cougars ran the table for the regular season, stopping Hartford 45-0 Thursday in Eight-Man Division II district play in rural Lost Springs.
Centre scored 23 points in the third quarter, ending the game on the 45-point rule.
Tanner Brunner threw three touchdown passes, hitting five of seven attempts for 170 yards. Burnner added 60 yards rushing. Rustyn Kerbs rushed for two touchdowns. Kerbs also caught two touchdown passes and intercepted two passes. Casey Kristek added a touchdown run.
Hartford was held to 124 yards total offense.
Centre is 8-0, 4-0 in district play. Hartford falls to 2-7, 2-2 in district play. Centre will host a playoff game Tuesday against either Caldwell or South Haven.

Hillsboro is 5-4, 2-1 in district play. Marion ends the season 5-4, 1-2 in district play. The Trojans play Tuesday at Garden Plain.

Halstead 19, Garden Plain 14

HALSTEAD — The Halstead Dragons pulled off perhaps the upset of the year in Class 3A, stopping Garden Plain 19-14 Thursday in district play in Halstead.
Scoring details were not reported at press time.
Garden Plain retains the district title, finishing the regular season 7-2, 2-1 in district play. Halstead ends the season 6-3, 1-2 in district play.
