WHAT: Horizon Milling is building a walkway over Broadway as part of a major expansion of the company’s Newton facility. As a result, a major street will be closed for the rest of the week. Facility manager Natalie Gosch told the Kansan previously the construction should be finished by the end of the year. The expansion is expected to create 30 new jobs.

WHO: Horizon Milling, a division of Cargill, which operated a milling plant in Newton. The Newton facility mills wheat and makes flour.

WHERE: Broadway from Walnut to Pine. The detour route is High Street to Eighth Street to Oak.

WHY: The road closure will allow Horizon Milling to construct a covered walkway over Broadway that will connect the new building to the existing facility. The Newton City Commission approved the street closure at a meeting on Oct. 12.
